When Martin Concrete Construction was selected as the concrete contractor for the latest office expansion for VSAT Networks and Antenna Systems in Gwinnett County, it was due to the complex nature of the project.  Due to an ongoing successful business relationship, Ernst Concrete was contracted to supply concrete. The campus includes two buildings totaling 143,000 square feet that accommodate engineering, manufacturing, test and operations, along with other management administrative personnel, plus an outdoor antenna integration and test area.  The new development occupies 12 acres of the site with another 3.5 acres reserved for future expansion.  The project is anticipated to accommodate 275 new jobs over the next 10 years. The build-to-suit facility represents a $10.5 million investment into the community.

The challenges began with the site itself.  Soil cement was utilized to create suitable soil for a large portion of the building.  The detail on the tilt panels was intense to say the least.  Over 20,000 square feet of thin brick covered the exterior of the building.  Four different sizes of reveal were utilized for the enhanced architectural appeal.  The slabs consisted of a four inch reinforced slab on grade and a six and half inch slab on deck which had to be placed in conjunction with the steel erectors.  Despite the site challenges the project was completed within budget and on schedule.
